My pet peeve is people who do these lists too early. It's not even December yet - still a months worth of releases to be assess before making a call.

Well fuck your pet peeve.
Kidding of course. Certainly a fair position to take. Almost December though and nothing on the horizon coming out that has caught my eye. Certainly possible something might come out via Bandcamp that could crack the list but those 13 albums I listed, in my opinion obviously, are exceptional. Would take one hell of an album to knock one of those albums off the list.

Neither the Flaming Lips or the MBV album were particularly good imo.

Flaming Lips was good but differed somewhat from their usual psyche pop mini symphonies. It was something of a downer and lacking somewhat in terms of melody. But taken as a whole it's still a very good album.

The Zomby track you posted sounds great though, downloading the album now and will listen to it over the next week.

I am so ashamed that I somehow let both the new Mouth of the Architect and the new Rosetta pass me by! That MOTA album is fucking great.

Great albums both. MOTA's
Dawning is their best album to date imo

Been trawling through the Metal Sucks (and some others) best of lists for 2013 grabbing some final albums to listen to. Candidates for me to listen to:
Drunk Dad - Morbid Reality
Ancient Warlocks - Ancient Warlocks
Steak - Corned Beef Colossus
Lord Dying - Summon the Faithless
Diesto - For Water or Blood
Antigama - Meteor
Cloud Rat - Moksha
ASG - Blood Drive
Whores - Clean
Agrimonia - Rites of Separation
Fister - Gemini
Zomby - With Love
Anacondas - Sub Contra Blues
Byzantine - Byzantine
Demdike Stare - Post Collapse
Pharmakon - Abandon
Purson - The Circle and the Blue Door
Void of Sleep - Tales Between Reality and Madness
Yo La Tengo - Fade
Not sure if any of those will appear on my final list, but initial impression was good.

I've listened to these two. The Lord Dying album is solid, but nothing special. Blood Drive isn't too bad, I actually just listened to it again earlier today, but I imagine the vocals would be a bit of a turn off for some people.

I've listened to the first 4 so far, and they're all ok, but none top 10 worthy I don't think.

Surprised you haven't heard the Whores album, pretty great.

I remember someone posting it (I think it was you) and first impressions were good. Not sure why I didn't give it some further listens, but will definitely get a work out sometime over the next week.

As an update of sorts to my list:
- Albums by Whores, Anacondas, Void of Sleep and Demdike Stare are all excellent and contenders for my best albums list. Especially Void of Sleep.
- Yo La Tengo and Steak were great as well, but probably not really good enough for my list
- Purson, Fister, Drunk Dad, Lord Dying, Cloud Rat, Zomby, Lord Dying, ASG and Byzantine were all a little meh
- Still have a bunch of others to listen to

I like the Zomby record for what it is; background noise ... a bit too repetative in parts for my liking ... 33 tracks could have been 15-18
meh ... Lord Dying doubly so, it would appear

Add
Agrimonia - Rites of Seperation to the good albums list. Interesting mix of progish rock/metal not unlike Tool with black/death metal style vocals. Not to everyone's taste I realise, but I found the album worth the time.

Not feeling much disappointment so far to be honest. There are several albums released this year that I feel are better than my favorite from 2012.

Ok, not sure where to post this cause it isn't my list yet, but all three bands listed are up there previously ... so tonite I listened to the Void of Sleep, Whores and Agrimonia records and I can say they were all worth a listen ...
Void of Sleep: (still midway through) seems a solid enough record and it'll get some additional spins to confirm ... the mix is good enough to be radio friendly-ish and I kinda like it on first listen
Whores: Catchy bits with a great sledgy tone I loved from the first note ... will repeat regularly in the near future. Kinda got a cross breed Helmet/Fu Manchu/Melvins aesthetic. Mog, I even bought it!
Agrimonia: I like the layered guitars, but it's really too bad the drumming is so damned pedestrian in comparison (not dissimilar to how Hammett outclasses Lars) ... bonus: chick death metal singer that didn't entirely annoy me all of the time (even had to google them to confirm it was a gal, indeed, screaming at me)
Of the above, at minimum, Whores is definitely worth an honorable mention on the 2013 list at this point

Really? I presumed it was a dude. Didn't find the drumming that much of a detraction personally. He's no Danny Carey but seems quite capable.
