MATT CAMERON’S SUPERGROUP “DRUMGASM” RELEASING DEBUT

The drummer of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, Matt Cameron, has been recording for an all-drummer trio supergroup titled “Drumgasm.” The other members include Janet Weiss and Zach Hill. Weiss is currently the drummer for Quasi and Wild Flag and is also known from the female-lead alternative rock group, Sleater-Kinney. Hill is known for his two bands: Hella, considered to be a mix of math and noise rock, and Death Grips, an experimental hip hop group.

Their debut LP will be available on August 27th and apparently has two tracks that are 20 minutes long.

MARK LANEGAN ENDS MUSICAL PARTNERSHIP WITH ISOBEL CAMPBELL

Nine years after its conception, the musical partnership between Mark Lanegan and Scottish singer Isobel Campbell has come to an end. In a new interview with Transatlantic Modern, Campbell describes her relationship with Lanegan and how their collaboration “turned really sour.”

In the interview, Campbell describes the exhaustion that she endured during the duo’s touring. She became upset when “Mark had secretly booked a solo show for himself using [her] guitarist,” and states that a solo tour is better than having to deal with “all the red tape of ‘Can we play these shows?’”

In addition, Campbell states that “we couldn’t tour [Ballad of the Broken Seas] because he was in rehab.”

Throughout the interview, Campbell voices her displeasure with Lanegan’s grumpiness and unwillingness to play on college radio, on TV, or in-stores. She says that the touring “just didn’t work,” and that “there was no flow.” Campbell will now re-establish herself as a solo artist and is going to write a book.

The duo released three collaborative studio albums during their partnership, Ballad of the Broken Seas in 2006, Sunday at Devil Dirt in 2008, and Hawk in 2010.

Jesu - Everyday I Get Closer To The Light From Which I Came

Disc 1
1.Homesick
2.Comforter
3.Everyday
4.The Great Leveller
5.Grey Is The Colour

Disc 2 (Daymare)

Beginning with ‘Homesick’, with it’s guitar hooks, shoegaze textures and familar jesu sound, one can be mislead into consdering that this new album will follow a familar jesu trajectory but instead the following tracks use jesu’s aeshetic but take in dub, post punk and electronica along the way, to create maybe the most dynamic jesu album to date. The epic ‘The Great Leveller’, at over 17 minutes, is the boldest statement of the songs here- featuring the albums only other player besides Justin, Nicola Manzan, who commands a one man orchestra of strings. Mastered by James Plotkin. Recorded and mixed at Justin K Broadrick’s Avalanche Studio.

Adam shouldn't have been on that list to begin with. He's totally not that kind of guitarist.

Wow, who would have guessed this turned out to be a popularity contest :?

Jeff Hanneman, while being very good guitar player should be happy he died recently, as that's the only reason he's got as far as he has. Also, Dimebag sucks.

What really bothers me is that Tool have been plugging this on their facebook page and on Toolband. To be honest it disappoints me they'd waste their time pushing this kind of tripe.

I don't understand how they decided who was an axe-slinger and who was a shredder. I mean what is an axe-slinger anyway? What are the qualifications? Why even break it up into two categories if they're just going to pit the two finalists against each other anyways?

They're two ridiculous terms that de-legitimise an already poorly-regarded genre of music.
