YES YES AND YES!!! I miss and love Chi very much but I wasn't a big fan of Saturday Night Wrist. I think the addition of NYC hardcore vet Sergio Vega was what the band needed to evolve further. Quicksand, as Uncle Matt knows, is one of my all time favorite bands and I see this new life the Deftones have directly impacted by him joining the band. I think if he wasn't at the right place at the right time the band known as Deftones might not exist anymore. anyone disagree?

They would've been fine.

you think? I dunno man, Chino was heartbroken. I think there was a strong possibility of them drifting apart.

Of course he was heartbroken but it seemed to me like those guys never even considered calling it quits. They kept touring and making records while Chi was still in the coma. With him, for him, without him, it seemed they were gonna keep on truckin'.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to me like they were ever that close to breaking up.

I didn't say that they were, at least that's not what I was trying to say. what I'm trying to say is that Sergio Vega filling in on tour and in the studio helped them transition as a band in crisis. I think they would definitely agree with that. I'm not going to go searching for youtube videos right now but there has to be something out there that drives that point home. the probability of them making it through that life changing situation was exponentially increased when they added him into the band full time.

But any band that replaced a player could say the same thing. It would have been hard for the Deftones to have continued as a band without a bass player. I'm not convinced that had they gone with another choice or used studio/touring bassists that they would have had more difficulty staying together.

I disagree completely, sure you need a bass player and there are a lot of bass players out there but they didn't have an open audition like Metallica did. Sergio was a member of the extended Deftones family. and if the music sucked? yes, 100% they would have had a problem staying together. the music actually got BETTER from Saturday Night Wrist to Diamond Eyes. not only did existing Deftones fans say "oh, okay, this shit rocks" but they actually became popular with people who were casual fans or old school fans. fans that loved Adrenaline and Around The Fur and White Pony then kinda forgot they were around. oh, the bassists from Quicksand is in the band now? let me see what's doing. I mean my friends, family, even my girlfriend heard CMND/CTRL and were "wow'd" by it. seemed like a throwback. and the album title track blew the doors off, suddenly they went from kinda obscurity to playing Late Night shows. let's be honest here "Saturday Night Wrist" and "Deftones" were let downs compared to White Pony and Around the Fur. they were on a downslide and Chi in a coma? man that seemed like it for them. then BOOM Vega comes to the forefront, the band has new life and "Diamond Eyes" was excellent. it buried their last two albums in a smoldering pile of ash.

did a fan do that or did the Deftones? if so that's incredibly cool. If I were a Deftones fan living in Texas that would be my wallpaper for the rest of the year :D

It's official from the Deftones social media postings. Looks like they'll be touring the US from March to May.

Fuck that shit, if you're going to put out teasers for songs just do one. I have no interest in listening to a song in incremental bits.

I feel the same way, at least we'll get to rip it off the radio tomorrow. they get mad at Chino when he leaks his own stuff, which is straight silly bears. definitely some corporate brass asshole executive who thinks song teasers are a good idea. what a doofus.

The track didn't do much for me to be honest, though I liked the video. Looking forward to the album though.
