Opiate

Opiate is the first EP released by Tool on March 10, 1992. It was recorded by Sylvia Massey and features four studio tracks, two live tracks and one hidden track. The EP was released on Vinyl, Cassette and CD.

Cold and Ugly was recorded December 31, 1991 at the Jello Loft in Hollywood, California.

Jerk-Off was recorded January 1, 1992 at the Jello Loft in Hollywood, California.

Cold and Ugly, Hush, Part of Me and Jerk-Off were all previously recorded for the bands first demo tape 72826. A live version of Part of Me also appeared on Salival.

A video was produced for the track Hush which features the members of Tool semi-naked covered by a censorship sign.

21st Anniversary Re-issue

On March 26, 2013 Tool released a special 21st anniversary limited edition package of Opiate. It includes bonus features, such as new artwork. There were five different versions of the release, each limited to 1000 copies and with different artwork.

It was reported that there was a sixth version of which there were only five. These also contained the Golden Ticket the Seal of Xatanitos, details of what it entitles holders to haven’t been confirmed by the band.
