QOTSA
A solid album without any real standout tracks. Â I won't say I'm disappointed, as it's better than their last two albums, but is a long way off the lofty standards set by the first three.
I find the track with Trent Reznor to be the highlight for me - quite interesting hearing Trent's vocals over the top of a rock track.

I agree with all of this except for it being better than the last two... slowly becoming more obvious to me that this is, overall, as an album, their worst effort to date... still solid, but as a whole isn't standing up on it's own yet... I do really like some parts of it a lot, smooth sailing, for instance is quite infectious from go and the intro tone of the lead track is a splendid sound to mine ears.

I know QOTSA albums generally take a while to fully appreciate, but this one is just not really doing it for me yet. The pre-leak releases were actually better as stand alone songs, as an album it just feels a bit tired, doesn't seem to go anywhere, and funnily enough, its a very short album.
Highlight for me is Elton's piano work, but lets be honest, Josh could have done that himself.
I was hoping for a more rockin' Lullabies, but it seems to have fallen a bit flat for me.
6/10 - what a shame.

I'm a bit dumbfounded by the reception here - general consensus among friends who are fans, and chatter on the web, has been insanely positive.
couldn't tell ya about general consensus, but being that they are one of my favorite bands and have released one of my single favorite records ever, they had their own, very large shoes to fill... and they've not quite done it from my perspective. Â It's not bad, it's just not great. It's similar to comparing 10K to either Aenima or Lateralus, it falls way short. Â Or even more recently, although it's good music, the new Tomahawk record was not great relative to any of their previous releases. Â I'm finding this record to be much the same.
I can certainly second Blender's sentiment related to the meandering but not going anywhere aspect as well. Â You turn it on and before you've reached any specific destination, it's over... much the opposite of their previous catalog.

I second that. this album is very good. gets better every time I throw it on. all killer, no filler.

Asteroids do not concern me, Admiral. I want that ship, not excuses.

Was a great show, and well run by NPR. Â Not even so much as a hiccup in the stream for me.
Also nice lighting job their by Junior...
everything I had to say... nothing more to add other than I do hope they publish the webcast at some point like a lot of the rest of their stuff... we'll see

Junior mentioned to me that he was not the designer on this production but now when I to a show, I pay so much more attention to the lights b/c of him.
