It’s the time of year where not only to we swear allegiance to baby Jesus and commercialism, but we also tend to compile best of lists. Last year we had a successful Album of the Year Poll, and this year we shall do the same! Below is an embedded Google Form which will allow you to enter in your favorite albums, from which I shall compile a top 10 based on the number of votes received.
The rules for voting are as follows:
Only vote for an albums once! I’ll be checking the data for duplicates, so let’s not waste both of our time.
Albums must be released in 2013. This seems kind of obvious really…
Please try and use the format – . For example Laterlaus – Tool. This will make my life easier when I count the votes.
Order is not important. Each nomination received only one vote.
If you can’t think of 10 albums, then feel free to vote for less.
Make sure you use the form. Entries made via the comments below won’t be counted!
No troll votes please. Lists full of Taylor Swifts and Justin Biebers will most likely be ignored.
Almost 90 entries so far, and it's safe to say the #1 spot is likely to be one of two albums. One won't surprise many, and the others may surprise a few.

I assume #1 is Queens of The Stone Age and the surprise is either Palms or Nine Inch Nails. Maybe Kanye West.
We have about 164 votes so far, so the poll has been quite successful (would be nice to see some more of those 164 people on the forum though). The poll closes this weekend, so if you haven't put your submission in, then make sure you do so later this week.
Poll will be closing in a couple of hours. Up to almost 230 votes, which is pretty cool. Just glancing through the results it looks like (as I've previously hinted) the #1 position is pretty much a two horse race.
Once the poll closes I will start compiling the results, and will most like post them in the next week (time permitting).

Russian Circles
QOTSA
Won't be Russian Circles - almost 40 votes in an it's only received one nomination.
I find it hard to believe that they only have one vote so far. If you look at the top 13 thread Mog, 46&2, petemasterpete and UKE all have it in their list.
50 votes down and I'm only just registering the first vote for Red Fang's latest. Was this album a disappointment to many of you, or just uninteresting?
60 votes down and 157 unique albums voted on so far. Two thirds of the albums nominated so far only have one vote though.
Top 10 is interesting - still too close to call at this stage. It features most of the bands you expect and a few surprises. The albums currently in position 3 and 4 genuinely surprise me. One is a band I didn't believe are popular enough to be that high, and the other a reasonably average album released by a popular band.
Russian Circles has gathered a few votes now, and is pushing its way into the top 20.

Since I didn't know them I can't say disappointing, so I'll go with uninteresting. It did nothing for me.

There were many albums that I just didn't get to listen to before I submitted my top 10 list. This being one of them. I know, like last year, that once you release the full album list, and I get a chance to listen to more of them, that my top 10 will most likely change.

I actually think it's my favorite Red Fang album, it just didn't make my top 10. It did make my top 13 though.
My guess for top two would be
Nine Inch Palms
Queens of the Nail Age
and STONE.

Counting is about half way done. I don't think the make up of the top 5 will really surprise anyone (one of them may surprise a few I guess).
When I publish the list, I am going to publish two:
One containing the unmoderated top 10.
A second list which doesn't include all the usual dinosaur acts (QOTSA, NIN, etc).
For the second list, does anyone want to suggest any criteria by which popular bands should be eliminated? My thoughts are to cross off anyone with an existing gold or platinum record and anyone who's released more than 3 full length albums. Thoughts?
