Re: Tool - 4 March 2014 - Spokane Arena, Spokane, WA
Everyone said on the setlist that it was the "new jam" before schism that they have been doing for years. That upon a listen sounds very different than what's been all over YouTube .. I like it
Re: Tool - 4 March 2014 - Spokane Arena, Spokane, WA
Sounds good to me, nice to hear something a little different - makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Sounded a little Wings For Marie-ish.

Thanks for the repost BKGG.
So merch wise you get at a minimum:
Shirt
Print
Tote bag (looks like the super cheap ultra thin ones they sell at Wal-Mart for $1)
Sticker
Laminate
And maybe:
Keychain
Beanie
iPhone case (immediate eBay for us super cool Samsung Galaxy users)
Q&A sounds like fun (and probably most valuable VIP perk IMO)
Early run at merch table (even tie but maybe slighly behind most valuable VIP perk)
Seeing props sounds cool.
Sound check might be interesting, but not amaze-ballz.
Cedar Park VIP sold out. Only 100 signed venue prints at $130 a piece.
If 100-110 VIP tix were sold I hope that some of them VIP's blew all their cash on the tix and can't afford signed prints...
Sigh. Getting multiple signed prints may be more difficult than I thought.

Nice to see MJK singing the "Much better you than I" to close out Vicarious. That's a good sign IMO.
I think his voice sounds decent, especially with Adam's comment at the VIP about it being fucked. Hope he rests it plenty before SF.
I am very stoked for these shows, TTF that I am...

Doesn't do it for me as much as the 2010 and 2012 Schism intros. They sounded fresh.star_walker wrote:here's some new material in the schism intro at 15:50

This sounds like a mash up of Wings and Pushit and maybe a bit of 46&2 towards the end. Doesn't sound original enough. Almost gives credibility to that 'leaked' new Tool song that also sounded like a Tool mash up.
Whatever, I'm still excited

The merch shopping was right after sound check. We were ushered out but the guys were still on stage and we could hear them still playing as we shopped.bigboy55693 wrote:

The posters were not signed yet at this point. I had to head back to merch once doors officially opened to get a signed one, and there was no doodled poster. The merch staff looked at me like I had 10 heads when I asked about it.

I think VIP's also get merch at "discounted" prices.

@Hellyboy, I also thought it sounded very much like Wings.
I do think the old schism 2012 intro was better. But, maybe the two pieces are a part of the same tune? Anyone want to try and stitch them together, any cohesion, or similar beats?

So, any more experiences, reviews, q & a, stuff from the VIP? The qandA is really what im interested in on this tour. Seems to be the only time you can get real answers straight from the horses mouth. That and new segues. But, anyone heard of anything else, or care to share the experience?
Re: Tool - 4 March 2014 - Spokane Arena, Spokane, WA
I've asked both Danny and Adam this question in the past. We got to hang out with the band less Maynard and the entire road crew after shows at a bar close to the venue. Pretty much got the answer that Maynard doesn't go out on the road with every one so he doesn't get sick. I was also told that he avoids bars because cigarette smoke is hard on his voice. These rules didn't apply to anyone else associated with the band as far as I saw. Adam and Danny both sat down at our booth and drank with us for around an hour the second time around. Everyone was at the bar until they kicked us out. So it's probably a combination of both health concerns and personality as far as Maynard goes.xZ1mM3r wrote:It's just an excuse I'm sure. Maynard doesn't seem like a people person. After the show he walks off stage while the other guys wave and clap and throw stuff in the audience. Maynard just doesn't seem like the personality that would interact with fans.. At allhellboy wrote:Was that the excuse used? Sounded to me like he wasn't sound checking to save his voice, not to avoid people. Seem ludicrous to think that was the reason, given that he'll be on stage several hours later, and people on the VIP tour are no closer than the barrier.Krazy_blah wrote: The other side of that, and probably the factual one, is Adam being full of crap and using the old "he's sick so can't be around people" excuse.

1. Can we leave after
2. (do) you just stay there until the show starts
Based on other reviews I have seen, they will allow you to leave to take stuff to your car, but you will not be let back in until the doors open. If you have assigned seats, no biggie. If it is GA, you may want to hold on to your stuff. I am under the impression they will have a section for VIP in the GA shows.
Thanks for the info all, should be good either way

I'll be doing the Vegas show VIP thing. So exactly how many hours do you end up spending at the venue before the show starts? Did people bring their own stuff to be autographed or just had the VIP "goodies" signed? Also did Adam give a rough estimate of when the new album is coming out or did he just say that they are working on it? Thanks in advance.

You are there from 1PM until show time. Get there early for better seats.Freakasaurus wrote:I'll be doing the Vegas show VIP thing. You were allowed to bring an item no larger than a 12" vinyl and Adam would either sign that OR the vip poster they give you. Bring a tube and/or some rubber bands.

Thanks! Wow. That seems like a lot of waiting around time before a show. So when you're not doing the Q&A or sound check you're just trapped in the venue for hours? Sounds like a LOOONG day.ncast2523 wrote:You are there from 1PM until show time. Get there early for better seats.Freakasaurus wrote:I'll be doing the Vegas show VIP thing. No SHIT! Way to make me feel like even more of a douchebagge for going the VIP route, Tool. So now I have to basically take the day off work? FFS.Freakasaurus wrote:Wow. I sincerely hope this is not how they handle SF. It's GA, so I don't see how "getting a better seat" plays into this.
I do appreciate the feedback from other VIP victims attendees. Any other insights you have, feel free to post on the show specific threads. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is interested (I'm looking at YOU lurkers!)

I've heard conflicting things but I think in Vegas I'm just gonna address my insisting to be able to leave to the venue, I think at $500 a ticket it would be unreasonable of them to trap us in the venue for 8 hrs before tool even comes on! Probably would've just gone for a regular ticket had I known that was the case.

It really does seem unreasonable. I'm flying out to Vegas with my wife and got her a VIP ticket too despite the fact that she's not a huge fan. We thought we'd have most of Saturday to do other things then get to the venue a few hours before the show for the Q&A and sound check. Getting there at 1 or 2 wouldn't be the biggest deal if we could come and go between activites. I could deal with the long day of waiting but feel bad for my wife. It's like I spent an extra $500 so Tool could keep her captive all of Saturday. Lol. Oh well. I'm gonna hope for the best and appreciate all the cool moments.trustinmeandfall wrote:I've heard conflicting things but I think in Vegas I'm just gonna address my insisting to be able to leave to the venue, I think at $500 a ticket it would be unreasonable of them to trap us in the venue for 8 hrs before tool even comes on! Re: Tool - 4 March 2014 - Spokane Arena, Spokane, WA
I think it is going to depend on the venue to determine wether or not you will be allowed back in but ill try to put the day in chronological order as best as i can remember.
They didn't check us in until about 1:30 (running behind, first vip, first show etc). At check in we got our ticket and laminate. Then got searched by security. We were then escorted to a meeting room in the venue, and Adam came in not too much longer after that. He spoke for a bit, played Jambi for us and then opened the field for questions. It was probably a little over an hour, and then we lined up for our cell phone photos and signatures and were given the vip poster which he signed OR he signed your item you brought in which took about close to an hour id estimate. He then leaves to go to sound check. VIP group hangs out in that room (Pro Tip: Bring your cell phone charger) and has some snacks (granola bars, chips, salsa, pretzels etc) and drinks (soda, water) provided. And we were given our goodie bags (this may be done at check in for later shows first night problems maybe).Once initial sound check is done and they are ready for the VIP's you are escorted into the venue and up to the rail and they sound check a couple of songs. Adam mentioned in Q&A that they would possibly take a request once mayjay leaves (however for us he wasn't there at all) but that ended up not happening. From there we were brought to early merch shopping. Signed posters were not yet available as the band was still on stage sound checking.
At this point our host, Juan (great guy!) said that the venue would be allowing us to leave, but if you left you wouldn't be able to get back in until they let genpop in (and there was already a line at this point, probably not smart for a GA show). It was close to 6 by then and doors were at 7 so many of us found no point to leave. We went back to that room and they had the prop set piece guys from Parabola and Vicarious in there for you to take pics with.
A quick cell phone charge and a fresh cold bottle of water in my back pocket and it was time to head into the venue. I hit merch for a signed poster and then ate in the restaurant in the venue.

How intense was the security search?
When you say cell phone photos do you mean he was taking pictures with the fans?

Another thing worth noting for VIP holders is that they nixed the personal signing of items because it took up way too much time for Adam. Not sure if this was mentioned elsewhere, already.
