I'm starting to think that the " X deserved to win" line is making less and less sense. Don't worry, I've used it before, too - I'm just starting to think it's a stupid thing to say.Ettan wrote:USA deserved that win. What a great game that was, intense shit
O love will you read the letters I will send to you.
Re: FIFA World Cup, 2014 Thread . . .
It is a stupid thing to say. Sport results are decided week in week out on what happens in 30 seconds. The team that won is the team that deserved it, unless the refereeing categorically be deemed incompetent.

That would be the only case, yeah. Like every fucking week in the A League.hellboy wrote:It is a stupid thing to say. Sport results are decided week in week out on what happens in 30 seconds. The team that won is the team that deserved it, unless the refereeing categorically be deemed incompetent.

Re: FIFA World Cup, 2014 Thread . . .
But Belgium deserved the win... 30 chances.... vs 5....
Re: FIFA World Cup, 2014 Thread . . .
I was gutted by the US loss to Belgium, but even I admit that Belgium "deserved" it more. They were the better TEAM on the field. We had some good individual performances (especially Timmy) but Football is a team sport plain and simple.
The USMNT had a great run compared to expectations (mine included for sure). I can be happy with that and look forward to getting it together for the next WC. Plenty of milestones between now and then to enjoy as well (CONCACAF Gold Cup, Olympics, etc).

US fucking blew it. sucks when the best player on the team is your goalie. I'm an expert at that btw, being a NY Ranger fan lol.

Ze Germans will end Les Bleus run at this World Cup. I don't think it will get into extra time but the final result will be 2-1. France have had an easy route to this stage and tonight they will be shut down.
Colombia will shock the Brazilians. They are on a roll and my favorite at the moment to win the whole damn thing. Brazil have looked vulnerable this tournament, and they lack that "joga bonito" that they have been known for decades. Their run will end tonight. Hell of a night ahead. King James!

We shall see
Re: FIFA World Cup, 2014 Thread . . .
I really hope Colombia beats Brasil. Just because.
And Germany to beat France.

Re: FIFA World Cup, 2014 Thread . . .
Yeah, saw that.
Totally awesome.
Keeps on entertaining that some people stay in denial even if you post an image in which Marquez has his foot on top of Robben's foot.

There were lots of bad calls and non calls all game long. Robben is a very talented player but his flops are ridiculous. In the end Mexico didn't hold their lead, however their lead could have been bigger. That's football for you, that's the ugly side of it. Until FIFA changes the rules regarding replay we will always have this issues. For now, it is what it is. Flawedms2r wrote:Yeah, saw that.

Re: FIFA World Cup, 2014 Thread . . .
Que?
Robben dived once in the first half, he admitted that.
Then just before the break it was a 100% penalty (first against his heel, then against his shin). I mean Moreno breaks his leg ... that is not from a ball.
Then in the 2nd half there was a trip that was neither a foul nor a dive.
Then in the last minute Marquez places his foot on top of Robben's foot. Clear penalty, even though the dive from the foul is a bit theatrical.

20th minute in the box, Herrera gets kicked in the face. This should have been a penalty. Plus the Dos Santos goal would have had them up 2-0. Momentum and game plan would have shifted for both sides dramatically.
Look it's over, the Dutch are a great team and I've always liked Robben and Sneijder, and in the end they pushed the ball forward and put the ball in the back of the net. But there were some questionable calls, just like any other game. The cooling breaks were not necessary. These guys are professionals they can play 45 min halves.
Anyways enough on that. Colombia will shine tonight

I look forward to one of the following:Kittaan wrote:Not Tyson wrote:Germany's got a case of the sniffles.
A) Tyson either ignores this thread now that his pick has been eliminated (as I predicted of course).
B) Gymnastic back pedaling.
C) They lost, oh well. Germany was the better team.
