Soundwave 2016
Re: Soundwave 2016
AJ's racked up a lot of debt lately. There's some pretty reasonable concerns as to how the company is going and I heard it's in voluntary administration.
Buying a ticket for this is probably going to be a good way to kiss goodbye to $180.

I remember day 2 at sydney this year looking out to the crowd in main stadium around 6-7pm saying to a mate ill be amazed if he recovers from this.. crowd numbers were dismal and must-have hurt the hip pocket big time.

There is really nothing there to make me want to buy a ticket yet which kinda sucks. Will still keep an eye on the announcements but it isnt looking promising.

samey-same ... other than deftones (who I've seen more than any other band) and failure (who SHOULD play a sideshow) there isn't anything worth the asking price
well piss on my tits and tell me it's raining
Re: Soundwave 2016
I remember reading somewhere there should be another small announcement of a half dozen bands this week, then one final announcement towards the end of the month. But really, unless they can pull some kind of rabbit out of the hat headliner wise, it's pretty much a non-event.
I hope they can weather what will most likely be a financial storm for them.

Sideshows are the way to go when its slim pickings (not worth the ticket price) for the full day. Really need a good fix of live music too. Have only caught 2 bands in the last YEAR which I need to remedy fast!

Have no love for Soundwave. Never really believed that Tool would headline at any stage. I have a feeling though that Australia hasn't seen the last of Tool and we'll be one of the first places on earth to welcome those guys once the new album hits in April 2017.

Re: Soundwave 2016
Yeah, it never really sat right with me either - the timing just didn't seem right, despite the hint Blair gave me. I have a suspicion that given the apparent lack of a decent Soundwave headliner there were discussions about them playing and that's what Blair was hinting at, but in the end I guess the opted not to (and hopefully for all of our sake focus on the new album).Calfium Jay wrote:Have no love for Soundwave. Re: Soundwave 2016
Well, in news that probably won't surprise anyone it seems like Soundwave is all but cancelled. AJ doing his usual trick of blaming everyone else, but I can't see it going ahead next year. Not sure what that means for the bands scheduled to play, whether or not they will find their own way down here or not.
Word around the place is that Tool were pretty much going to headline, but pulled the pin when it became obvious how insolvent the company were. The hastily organised US tour this January seems to be a by product of that.
Anyway, while I won't miss the bullshit associated with Soundwave and the way it was managed, I did have some great times attending over the last few years. Hopefully something else will fill the void.

What bullshit?? How was it "managed" and how on earth did the way it was managed affect you enough to be sick of it??

No official yet, but with NoFX jumping off the sinking ship, L7 joining them this morning and a few other bands taking the dates off their website, it can only be a matter of time.Calfium Jay wrote: Huh?!?!? It's news to me!!

The kind of management that results in $26 million dollars worth of debt, bands unpaid and suppliers being called "scumbags".Calfium Jay wrote:hellboy wrote: Anyway, while I won't miss the bullshit associated with Soundwave and the way it was managed.

Re: Soundwave 2016
I really cant see ticket sales balancing the books up enough with that pathetic line up they produced this year. Add that to the disaster that was day 2 in sydney last year and i'd imagine a cancellation of the festival won't be far away.
Spewing about missing out on Tool but at least we all save some money this way.

Well it's now officially cancelled due to poor ticket sales:
Hopefully those who already purchased tickets, and those silly enough to get into that Soundwave Club scam thing can get some money back.AJ @iamnotshouting

Re: Soundwave 2016
When you posted TOOl were a chance of headlining, and I had seen some other things that suggested it was a probability, I was a pube away from getting early birds.... Thankfully my mate convinced me to wait, then the crud lineup was announced....hellboy wrote:Hopefully those who already purchased tickets, and those silly enough to get into that Soundwave Club scam thing can get some money back.
It is sad though all of the rock, metal concerts are gone now in Oz...
Be good to each other.

Re: Soundwave 2016
Given AJ's show of love towards FNM I imagine he would have already looked after them a bit with what he could afford. No way they'd agree to such a low fee when they (in sydney at least) pulled the biggest crowd.
Ken West must be laughing his arse off and I expect BDO to make a return in 2017 to fill the void.

Yeah, could just be that they were smart enough to ask for an advance and the $750k is just the balanceBusty McCracken wrote:Given AJ's show of love towards FNM I imagine he would have already looked after them a bit with what he could afford. Re: Soundwave 2016
From what I hear both AJ and the ticketing folk are refusing to refund the cost of the tickets. Thats some bullshit. I'm glad it was cancelled, that's what they get for skipping Perth (not that I would have gone this year).hellboy wrote:Well it's now officially cancelled due to poor ticket sales:

Re: Soundwave 2016
In fairness to AJ, the ticket vendor has a contract between them and the customer. What business arrangements there are between Soundwave and eventopia should be irrelevant when it comes to refunds.BlackHole83 wrote:From what I hear both AJ and the ticketing folk are refusing to refund the cost of the tickets. Re: Soundwave 2016
Out of the ashes of Soundwave is crowdfunded festival called Legion. They're set dates, which include Adelaide which is a nice thought:
Legion festival dates
Saturday, March 26 – Melbourne
Sunday, March 27 – Sydney
Monday, March – Brisbane
Friday, April 1 – Adelaide (Mini-Fest)
Saturday, April 2 – Perth (Mini-Fest)
I expect the bands will be most those already announced for Soundwave, so I'm not anticipating a great lineup. I suspect more will be revealed when the crowdsourcing site goes live next week.
