good timely post...
can't even think right now as my mind is miles away...
I'll be back though...
and I'm sure my list will include at least a couple Alice Cooper songs.

yeah, Aussie's prefer to have dress up parties for any occasion so having a holiday steeped in paganism, specific to actually wearing a costume would be quite difficult to grasp, I'm sureNot Tyson wrote:I don't celebrate Halloween, I'm Australian, fair dinkum.

What?
No mention of "Monster Mash" or even MC Hammer's "Addams Groove" from the Addam's Family movie, for shame. For shame.

Re: Your Top Thirteen Halloween Tracks
Queue Theme Song from Halloween ...
1. Ministry: Scarecrow (mostly anything up through Filth Pig works)
2. Nine Inch Nails: Happiness in Slavery (just about everything from Broken or Downward Spiral works)
3. Marylin Manson: I Put a Spell on You (the Screamin' Jay cover is as eery as any of his own shit)
4. Acid Bath: Cassie Eats Cockroaches
5. Pink Floyd: Careful With That Ax, Eugene
6. Mudvayne: Ed Gein
7. Melvins: A History of Bad Men
8. Meshuggah: I Am Colossus (who am I kidding, it's all really sick, scary shit in general)
9. Nails: Wide Open Wound (Needed something released this year)
10. The Cure: Burn (I fucking HATE the Cure, too, but I like this song a lot)
11. Queens of the Stone Age: "Hey You Got A Killer Scene There Man (one of those great Halloween song titles bands)
12. Steven Wilson: Raider II (cuz it's literally about the BTK killer)
13. Tom Waits: Murder in the Red Barn
*BONUS: Fantomas: Millenium Monster Works (all of it for obvious reasons).
My top 13 was more of a bitch than I anticipated but likely because I went off the top of my head rather than hunt through shit. I've not included Black Sabbath, for the simple fact that early Sabbath IS Halloween. I have not included any Tool tracks in the top picks. It also didn't help that several of the bands on the list had multiple songs, if not whole albums and then some (as descibed above) that could have easily been included. Other bands have great song titles that warrant inclusion on that merit alone. Last, but not least, of my exclusion process was no only ambient/instrumental bands (Sorry Lustmord).
All Hallow's Eve Honorable Mentions (AKA my mostly obvious leftovers) are as follows:
Tool: Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned (cool story, bro)
Bowie: Hearts Filthy Lesson, but his early works are all pretty swell for this holiday
Cold: Serial Killer
AIC: Sickman (among some obvious others)
Mark Lanegan: Gravedigger's Song (but he's gome some depressingly somber and creepy stuff in general)
Failure: Smoking Umbrellas (or Heliotropic, can't decide)
Deftones: You've seen the Butcher
Big Business: Grounds for Divorce (that's another cool story, bro)
Ween: Voodoo Lady (cuz Monster Mash just ain't gonna cut it)
Metallica: Sanitarium (but quite a bit of their older stuff also fits)
Puscifer: Rev 22:20 (the original soundtrack version)
Nirvana: Where Did You Sleep Last Night (if the unplugged cover isn't haunting, you're already a ghost)
Mazzy Star: Fade into you (cuz everyone who listens to this will immediately die a long, slow, depressing, lonely death on the inside)
EDIT: fuck, I didn't even consider DEP's catalog, oh well

Re: Your Top Thirteen Halloween Tracks
I don't know where to go with this (what's a "Halloween song" anyway?) so I just went with 13 tracks that have a creepy sort of ambience:
Sonic Youth - Halloween (funnily enough)
Einsturzende Neubauten - Wassterturm
Caroliner Rainbow - Rise Of The Common Woodpile (but you could technically substitute this with pretty much ANYTHING by Caroliner)
Nurse With Wound - Nana Or A Thing Of Uncommon Nonsense (see Caroliner)
Kevin Drumm & Prurient - Though The Apple Is Rotten (see a doctor)
Throbbing Gristle - Hamburger Lady (well....derr)
Butthole Surfers - Strangers Die Every Day
Sonic Youth - Protect Me You (look! here they are again. their early stuff was waaaay creepy dont'cha know)
New Risen Throne - Prophet III
Von Thronstahl - Under The Mask
Kriegsfall U - The Great Man
Whitehouse - Private (technically it's not even "music" but if this doesn't ruffle yr coat feathers nothing will)
Nico - Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams (whenever I hear this song I think of children scurrying home from trick or treating on a cold autumn evening back in 1973)
