Clutch - Rocking the Earth since '91
Re: Clutch - Rocking the Earth since '91
I'm not sure what you guys are talking about.
Killer, catchy Clutch riffs on pretty much every track? Check.
Impeccable musicianship and vocals across the board? Check.
Great mix, where every instrument is dialed in and the vox is in perfect balance? Check.
Hell yes, early Clutch is amazing. But I can't think of a bad Clutch album. Everybody has their faves, as I certainly do. But I don't think they've fallen off in quality. If anything, they are tighter and more on top of their shit than ever.
As I posted earlier in this thread, on first listen I thought Earth Rocker was a little on the "pop" side of most Clutch albums, but that didn't stick with me after absorbing it, and especially seeing/hearing it live. PW had me from the beginning.
It's actually amazing how consistent the quality is with how prolific they have been. Their catalog is huge. Especially in comparison to other of my favorite bands....

Re: Clutch - Rocking the Earth since '91
I saw them a week ago here in Indy and it was just.. boring. I was so disappointed because last time I saw them live (2008) they were amazing; funky, bluesy and heavy at the right times. I wanted to hear some of the new tunes in a live setting first but I just couldn't get into them at all. I wanted to like them, I really did, but they just all sounded too similar and generic-rocky.

To be fair, I know HB isn't a massive Clutch fan to begin with.Kittaan wrote:I'm not sure what you guys are talking about.

etc, etc, etc
I don't disagree with your statements on the general quality of this band. I'm a long time fan, having seen them before they even had an official release way back when was still waiting for my boobs to grow.
My 'par' comment relates directly to their output only. I'm not putting them down in comparison to other bands so much as stating that they have a formula and they've stuck by it for the most part since that mid-2000's era stuff when they became THE Clutch we know and love. I'm only a couple spins into the new one, but I can say that Earth Rocker didn't last long in rotation with me (especially when compared to how often I still listen to previous releases) and I have a feeling this one won't either.
well piss on my tits and tell me it's raining
Re: Clutch - Rocking the Earth since '91
It's true, my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. I have seen and enjoyed them live several times though, and enjoyed previous albums. This one just didn't seem to stand out like some of the others have, hence my below par statement.petemasterpete wrote:

Re: Clutch - Rocking the Earth since '91
Had the luxury of an Amazon Pre-Order for Book of Bad D's and arrived 5 days prior to official release.
Couple of spins in and it is currently 8.5/10. Still deciding but think its a notch above Psychic Warfare.
Apart from the singles, there are further stand out tracks through out. If I had to pick one, 2nd track would be the weakest.
Interested to hear other members thoughts
