Nine Inch Nails
Re: Nine Inch Nails
Bought the regular version of the album on itunes yesterday. I really liked every track expect for the song Everything. I said I didn't like Come Back Haunted in a earlier post but compared to Everything "Haunted" is a great song. I think Everything is the worst NIN song that has ever been made. I can't stand The Hand That Feeds but Everything takes the cake on the shittest NIN song I have ever heard.
Ok, enough bitching about the one shitty song. I really like the intro and outro songs. The Eater of Dreams and Black Noise really made the beginning and end of the album complete to me. I had a good smoke and just laid in bed enjoying the whole album at once. When I got to Everything I couldn't even last 30 seconds and skipped it. The album as a whole is not very hard. It's quite an up beat album which doesn't bother me. I think it has some old style to it but it seems as trent is trying something different. I hope he doesn't play to many songs from this album for the Vegas show I am going to. If he does it won't bother me to much. At least they will be up beat and fun songs live. All in all I will give this album a 7/10. If there wasn't "the song that shall not be named" on the album I would have given it a 8/10. With the Bose headphones on and some help from the green it really was a trippy music experience.

I have a theory that "Everything" was one of the songs Trent wrote for that Greatest Hits album and it's shittiness was intended as a kind of Fuck You to Interscope.
Also that bassline in "Came Back Haunted" is incredible.
Though that doesn't explain why it made it's way on to this album.wave goodbye

That's not a theory, he did already explain his writing for the song was for the Greatest Hits- which lead to other songs being made which lead to hesitation Marks being made.UndKeineZwEier wrote:I have a theory that "Everything" was one of the songs Trent wrote for that Greatest Hits album and it's shittiness was intended as a kind of Fuck You to Interscope.

I honestly don't hate "Everything" quite as much now compared to the first few listens- not saying I like it either. It has that terrible drum sample to open up, Trent voice trying to reach a high note he can't hit anymore, and that fucking guitar part that reminds me of The Cure's Just like heaven or whatever the name is... and it's a fucking single. It's probably no worse than, say, the shitiest songs from With Teeth.

"So long, we wish you well"
And I'm sure hundreds of other examples. Not exactly a brand new lyric.

Agreed, never said it wasn't- when I see it on paper it sticks out like a sore thumb for me though for whatever reason with The Killers 'Human' somehow. I'm sure you know this, it's one of Trent's oldest live "lyrics" in 'Now I'm Nothing'. The "Wave.. Wave.. Wave goodbye part.Ravenpig wrote:Tool- Eulogy

That older Lolla video still sends chills down my spine. Fucking awesome part of early live NIN.

NINE INCH NAILS & QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE PLANNING TOUR
http://www.alternativenation.net/?p=35753

The image seems to indicate that Nine Inch Nails and Queens of the Stone Age are planning a co-headlining tour of Australia and New Zealand. Both bands released successful comeback albums this year (…Like Clockwork and Hesitation Marks) and are currently on their own headlining tours.

Re: Nine Inch Nails
Trent elaborates on why he refused Soundwave this year:
In simple terms, AJ, "your line-up eats dick!"
I personally couldn't agree more and wouldn't pay ten bucks to attend, as I consider my time much more valuable than the entire collective catalog of 99% of the bands thus far announced

Indeed."And, just to address the Soundwave thing ... what I think about is, as a fan, would I want to go see Nine Inch Nails on that bill? I wouldn't go see Nine Inch Nails on that bill. But I'd be excited to see 'em with Queens."

Re: Nine Inch Nails
No doubt touring with QOTSA is a much better idea, but I really would have been quite happy to see them at Soundwave.
Re: Nine Inch Nails
Just found out that my friend who works at the AT&T Center will probably be able to hook up a free suite for the NIN concert on November 5th. Sweetness!

Holy Shit! Really amazing show. Didn't think I'd dig the backup vocalists but they were really great. Also, Godspeed was unreal.

NINE INCH NAILS’ TRENT REZNOR: ‘MY ENEMY IS NOSTALGIA’
Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor discussed pushing forward musically in a new interview with SMH.
“The most confounding aspect of being older and having a career that has lasted a long time is trying to imagine how other people see you, especially younger people,” Reznor says. ”I see myself trying to figure out to push boundaries and expand my sound, and stumble into new places and figure out how to write better songs. But the moment that what I do under the moniker of Nine Inch Nails is just so people can go, ‘I loved those guys back in high school’, I don’t want to do it. My enemy in this is nostalgia.”

There is an inverse correlation between how shitty his attitude and music is now, with how much I actually give a fuck about him or his music.

Re: Nine Inch Nails
I really liked Hesitation Marks. But for Reznor to suggest that this new material of his "pushes boundaries" is puzzling in the extreme.
It doesn't push any boundaries. It's just poppier and less angsty.
