Wouldn't a tour promoting the new album AFTER it has been released be an even bigger cash grab?

I mean we dont know that... For all we know this is the only time they are all in the same place at the same time.Calfium Jay wrote:They have used this excuse many times before - to no effect.Umadbrah? wrote:I see it differently, this is at least time they are all together for a few weeks playing music. Why cant they write/discuss/solidify new tunes during the day/days off and play shows at night? Little do we know a release date is imminent.

Yeah it hasn't seemed to work in the past. Excited for any news, I'll take it. But, they need a new tune out there bad. If they don't play something new, they better keep pulling out deep cuts, which has been pretty rad. Never in my life did I think I'd see ticks and Hooker played at the same show, or even at all by chance. That was amazing! New tune, or The Grudge i say!

Heh, this is the first time I've seen anyone here say this. Good point.Calfium Jay wrote:Wouldn't a tour promoting the new album AFTER it has been released be an even bigger cash grab?
Maybe HB and I were on to something in the other thread when we said maybe they just like having these mini tours.

Re: Petition for a Tool and System of a Down tour
I think there's some element of cash involved, and may well be the impetus for the tour. To think that's the only reason they are doing it is a little ignorant.Ravenpig wrote:Heh, this is the first time I've seen anyone here say this. Re: Petition for a Tool and System of a Down tour
This is fairly obvious but what the hell: after the new album drops, they will likely start out by including 3-5 of the new tracks. Very unlikely they will increase set lengths, so as in the past they will drop older staples to accommodate. That means the little nuggets like 3rd Eye, Hooker, You Lied etc. will disappear for years (if not forever). Those complaining about more touring before new material may be missing this point? I have certainly enjoyed it and I'm hoping for another surprise in SF in March.
Granted, I'd rather have the new album, but this is certainly looking on the bright side.

Of course money is an object for these mini tours, most likely the main reason. All I'm saying is that perhaps they also straight up enjoy doing them.

Hey!
Here's a fucking idea!
Why don't we wait until after
the first concert to judge the 'setlist?'

You honestly think the setlist is going to include any new "surprises"??ilikecheese wrote:Hey!

If you do, then you obviously haven't been paying attention for the last 5 or 6 years.

I'm not sure - have you been paying attention? Though most of the set remains the same, each tour recently they've added something different from their back catalogue.Calfium Jay wrote:

Anyone expecting to hear a new song (other than that pre-Schism segue) is kidding themselves though.

Stinkfist Jambi Schism Forty Six & 2 Lateralus (to the best of my memory) are the only songs that haven't been cycled out of their set lists.
I am not even gonna try to list all the songs they've played the last few years.
Other than a new song what exactly do people expect?

Vicarious, Jambi and Intension seem to get played regularly.TheBirdman wrote:Do they still play much of vicarious in their shows?

I didn't have the money really. The soundwave tickets were a Christmas gift and at that point I didn't have a job.

Pretty sure Vicarious hasn't been played in the US since 2010, saw them a couple times in 2012 and it definitely wasn't played. Love the song but if MJK can't or won't belt out that last line take it off the setlist- it's just not the same song IMO. Don't remember Australia set list so correct me if they played it there.
Plan on going to the opener in Spokane. I don't give a shit how many times I've heard it- Aenima should be the closer for every Tool show.
