I agree 100%. I didn't consider the video thing, I think you're righthellboy wrote:I understand what you're saying, but I would hazard to guess that Junior may need a little more than a couple of seconds warning to get the video stuff queued up in time. Not saying it's impossible, but a little tricky I imagine.xZ1mM3r wrote:This is totally off the wall but whatever. Is it possible that Tool goes into a concert practiced up on 15 songs or something and then they kinda wing it on a few sections. Let Maynard see how he's feeling, Adam starts playing a riff and then that's the song they play? I might have done a bad job explaining this. But my point is I'm not convinced they have the whole setlist, song for song, planned out exactly pre show.
Also, from what I remember reading Maynard picks the setlists (I presume in consultation with the other 3 of course). My guess is they have a 15 or so songs in the "pool" and they will be played over the course of the tour. I still think thatare some chance to be trotted out this tour. And hopefully another "new" track or two.► Show Spoiler

Hey hellboy. Not sure if this classifies as needing a spoiler but I will anyways.

I would say unlikely. They have stuck to the same "formula" since 2009. Anybody remember these gems?

Re: General Tour Discussion Thread
Junior, I know your not "in the band", but do you have any in sight as to why they were not happy with the stuff they recorded in 2002? And do you know if they've filmed anything in the past few years on these tours??
Re: General Tour Discussion Thread
I'm one of the noted optimists around here, but it really would be nice to see them stretch out to longer sets once the new album comes out. The A/V production is still 100% top notch and stunning (Hi, Junior), but I have to say people have a point when they cite a 12-minute intermission 6 songs in (even taking into account Tool's song length). The beautiful thing to me about Tool live, and the reason I wish they would stretch out to 2+ hour sets (not including intermissions), is that each song is such a journey that that kind of length isn't as taxing as say, a 2.5 hour set from a band where it's like 30 songs. That starts to feel draining as each song is a complete "thought" and that many just starts to become a blur. I really think they could and should extend the set instead of progressively cutting it down from what they used to do. Too many bands of their ilk (Pink Floyd, Rush, etc.) were and are known for more "epic" sets night after night, and I hope they move that direction in the future. Not holding my breath...
On a positive note, I watched some of the videos floating around and Maynard sounds as good and strong as he has in years so that's a very good thing. Seems to be settling into his "new voice" nicely.

Id say there is definitely something to that. Sounds very interesting. Your post starts it a little late though. Good find.Ettan wrote:sounds like a new song to me

Re: General Tour Discussion Thread
Hoping that somebody out there grills them a bit during the next upcoming Q&A (eg. Why the hold up? Are you recording this year? Are the lyrics written? Any chance of a 2014 release? Will anything else be released this year? Is Undertow getting a reissue etc?)...
Please.
Please.

I needed a spoiler button for my girl! she gave away the setlist to me I told her it didn't matter to me if they played a different set or even a same exact set I've seen before. Guess after taking her to about 6 shows she is in a need to know, guess I wasn't clear on I need not to know! haha

It would be considered a spoiler if it were even remotely true. Not Tyson wrote:Why hasn't that post been removed ahahahahahahahaha

In case anyone wants to know the Portland setlist.

Watched some videos from Spokane, and while it's disingenuous to just label the drum solo thing as a cover, he is obviously playing B'Boom for a wee bit at the end. The majority of it is random drumming though. Also holy shit, does that part of the show look amazing.

There is a long tradition of "quoting" songs you dig in your solos and I totally dig it. Haters gonna hate.joeypants wrote:Watched some videos from Spokane, and while it's disingenuous to just label the drum solo thing as a cover, he is obviously playing B'Boom for a wee bit at the end. I can't comment on the 2002 recordings. What I saw looked good to me.LOOT wrote:Junior, I know your not "in the band", but do you have any in sight as to why they were not happy with the stuff they recorded in 2002? And do you know if they've filmed anything in the past few years on these tours??
I don't anticipate a pending release. Maybe someday.
Nothing since then has been filmed with multiple cameras, but nearly every show has been filmed with a single wide shot from back at the soundboard area for archival purposes.
