Opeth
Re: Opeth
Actually, I changed the structure of the sentence after an initial revision. Almost always a bad move coupled with my lack of proofreading.

Re: Opeth
I think comparing Opeth to other bands is not completely off topic.
Anyway, I look forward to hearing the new album for myself one day.

Re: Opeth
Who has listened to Pale Communion? What are your thoughts?
Re: Opeth
I'm not an Opeth fan at all, so don't really have any expectations except for it being more music I don't really dig. I enjoyed it, but neither was my mind blown. It doesn't sound like the Opeth I remember, which probably isn't a bad thing.
Re: Opeth
It's a solid album. Still don't like the first song that was released but overall it's good. I agree with the general sentiment that it doesn't sound like old Opeth.
Oh well. I'll hear it a few times then go back to Blackwater Park and Morningrise as my go to Opeth albums.

O love will you read the letters I will send to you.
Re: Opeth
I've listened to this a couple of times now. Definitely the best "Opeth" album. I'd go as far to say this might be a contender for my top 10. It'd certainly be on the shortlist.

Re: Opeth
I like Still Life and do listen to it semi regularly. BP and Morningrise have the advantage that I own the cd and I can hear them in my truck much more often. The Boss wrote:MFW "STILL LIFE" isn't a go-to album for you.Ravenpig wrote:It's a solid album. Heritage is the only Opeth album that's made me go "meh", actually.

My thoughts exactly. Not an Opeth fan at all....however, from what I have heard of Pale Communion so far...it sounds like something I could wrap my ears around.
Glad they ditched the "death metal" tomfoolery. It never suited them.
Will buy.

Re: Opeth
Just listened to Pale Communion again tonight, after a couple of weeks away from it. It's even stronger than I remembered. I also think it may be my favorite Opeth album overall.
To the peeps that don't dig it: Nobody is telling you to like something you don't. However, why should you give a fuck what came before with a band, make THAT the decision point for whether or not you like that band's current album? That is pretty dense IMO. To me, makes more sense to judge it on its own merits, as if you were hearing that band for the first time.
Regarding "if I wanted to listen to King Crimson, I would listen to King Crimson." That is also a weak argument against wanting to listen to an album... "they remind me of this other amazing band that put out a shit ton of great music while this band was growing up... so I won't listen to it". WTF?
Not to single you out, RP. But you are one of the many idiots pissing me off right now so you're getting a piece of my tiny mind. Deal with it.

Ah yes, ignore the times I've said I like it and attack the part you don't like. Ha rumph.
It sounds like KC dude. Not sure why me pointing that out makes me an idiot, but whatevs.
What is it with people around here getting butt hurt when someone doesn't like what they like/have a different opinion on an album?

Re: Opeth
This album is a wank. It doesn't matter who wrote it or what else they've done, I'd still think it was a fucking wank. You say we're acting pretty dense, but we're not the ones twisting other people's thoughts and opinions to better validate our own. So fuck you Kittaan, it does not surprise me at all that you like this album.
Read into that what you will.

Totally kidding on the idiot part my friend. You should know by now that I love you and if I wasn't past my prime, with no viable eggs, I would fer sure have your childrens.Ravenpig wrote:It sounds like KC dude. Not sure why me pointing that out makes me an idiot, but whatevs.
@ UKE - You would also be on my list, but I'm not sure your swimmers are old enough to function yet anyway, so moot point.
I was in a weird mood when I wrote the previous post by the way. Nobody was pissing me off in the least. The thoughts just occurred to me and I spewed.
Have a noice day.
