This article popped up on my facebook memories yesterday. And to think 2 years ago we actually believed this shit!! Well except for Mog, that bloke was all over it.
Maybe going off this article, the new albums finally finished and they're about to play it live in its entirety in a few days.. would be the curveball Blaire never saw them doing??
All these years later and im still clinging onto bullshit hopes of a new album actually happening! Haha

There were others who were just as cynical if not more so than Mog. Crow and Tyson, to name two.

Re: The Grudge (WARNING: Ten Years, Shmen Years)
I'll let you all take this one. I'm out.
He acknowledges that there was indeed humor in the Tool albums. But as with any time he's asked about Tool, his answers quickly become curt. A hint of exasperation creeps into his voice and he exhales heavily through his nose.
"Yeah, it's there," he says. "But people miss it because they're so focused on the other bullshit."
He shakes his head.
"It's lost. Insufferable people . . . It's just ridiculous, retards. I'm sorry. Can't help them. Way too serious. Too much. Lighten up."
Did he have to corral the other band members to play this one show in 2015?
"No, they had to con me into it."
Deftones is also playing the festival. Are we going to hear "Passenger," the Deftones song featuring Keenan guesting on vocals? Keenan hasn't performed it live in more than a decade.
He shakes his head vigorously.
Then the million-dollar question: When's the next Tool album coming out?
"There's nothing to say," he says. "I can't."

Re: The Grudge (WARNING: Ten Years, Shmen Years)
pretty expected from MJK... he has said that he doesnt want to become a greatest hits version of themselves. but thats exactly what is happening to Tool and he sees it, but cant do anything about it cause its not up to him when they release music. Probably pretty frustrating. We wont be hearing anything new this weekend from Tool. Likely just another 2014 show setlist.
Re: The Grudge (WARNING: Ten Years, Shmen Years)
I can't read any more newsletters, or Maynard interviews.
Kind of depressing at this point.

I agree. It's like the new album is getting further and further away from being completed.lo7us wrote:I can't read any more newsletters, or Maynard interviews.

Re: The Grudge (WARNING: Ten Years, Shmen Years)
I feel like they should have adopted an EP release strategy, as sacrilegious as that sounds for an 'album' band.
We know they were working on that 'long thing' a few years ago now, they could have released that as a discrete release, then a batch of another couple songs, etc., essentially as 'movements' every so often. Package em in a certain way so that they all fit into a container or box of some sort and form a massive full album at the end, we'd have eaten it up. They could probably re-sell the whole thing again later as one cohesive album with different artwork and some vids and we'd buy it yet again.
I'm a dreamer

I honestly think he might be THE most frustrated person about them taking so long. I'd guess most other singers would've cracked by now.xZ1mM3r wrote:pretty expected from MJK... he has said that he doesnt want to become a greatest hits version of themselves. but thats exactly what is happening to Tool and he sees it, but cant do anything about it cause its not up to him when they release music. Having said that, I doubt he had to be conned much into playing this show. Danny could probably convince him in 2 minutes.

Nope, just that million dollar smile of his.

Re: The Grudge (WARNING: Ten Years, Shmen Years)
Yeah, a nice big bear-hug. Maybe a shoulder rub.
At any rate, if they had to urge him into playing the gig, that at least shows they want to get out & play. Any activity is positive at this point.

I thought that at least by now that we would have an update as to where they are on the album, or any little nug of info when the album would be coming out. Being left in the dark is quite frustrating. I'm not mad at them, just depressed about it.

Re: The Grudge (WARNING: Ten Years, Shmen Years)
I could just maybe be delusional by this stage but starting to think something might be happening behind the scenes.
I mean, 2 years ago Blaire posts that he cant promise the albums gonna drop anytime soon but things are definitely progressing... then a year ago, they post a photo of them all in the studio and then.... nothing.....
It makes sense in my head that Maynard would wanna drop a new Puscifer record before Tool do as it will recieve much more fanfare than afterwards... they're playing a one off show & now Maynard comes out and bags the shit out of Tool and its fans and closes his quote in regards to info on a new album with "i can't"... He loves a good old fashioned shit stir, so in my head, either he's genuinely jack of talking about Tool and is ready to quit or some big news is about to drop in the next week. Hopefully the latter.

Got to admit it's kind of upsetting when you realize your some of your hero's are actually just fuckin assholes.
Maynard, yikes man. SOME humility? Is that even possible at all? Denigrate the fan base that gave you everything good in your life. Your entire wine/Cadeucus business, A Perfect Circle, and of course Puscifer. None of those matter to anyone if you were not the singer of one of the most revered bands of the last 20+ years.
Most of us can read between the lines and sure there was some humour in many Tool songs but many if them seemed incredibly serious and contemplative. Those are YOUR fucking words on those lyrics, all these songs with pretty heady, thoughtful themes and then years later after raking in untold millions you shit all over your fanbase for daring have to not Tool was a comedy band. Riiiiiight.

Oh well, at least Wolf Eyes have a new album out soon. You can always rely on a band like Wolf Eyes to deliver exciting new music year after year - all the time changing things up, experimenting with new sounds and with new directions in sonic exploration.
Yep, they're the complete fucking opposite of some other overpaid, fat lazy bands I can think of who exist on nothing more than the pungent, stale fumes of nostalgia.
But who cares about those bands anymore?

The same can be said for The Melvins. You can always count on them to have at least one album or EP every year along with a tour.
Why doesn't someone interview Adam? MJK said he can't write if he doesn't have music. So what's Adam been up to? Maybe we'll get some answers this Friday but I doubt it.
