I was thinking the same thing actually. Not that I think it will be released before the festivals, but I was surprised no one posted anything about it. I think we've all come to realize that we will always be wrong as always be let down when it comes to release dates, or a surprise release hope. As usual, I'd love to be wrong, but I assume the festivals will just be a rehashing of what we've seen for the last few tours. Standard set list, a old song thrown in.

I strongly stand by my statement that it won't be a secret when Tool finally get around to recording. They might "surprise" us with the album when it actually gets released, but I think we'll have some good warning that this might happen.

At this stage, with no indication they have even finished writing, let alone recording, it'll be another "greatest hits" tour.

I would agree with this for sure. Don't forget the APC tour which will tie up Maynard for most of March (for practice) and April (for touring). If he has barely written any lyrics yet (which all updates from MJK indicate), I think we'd be lucky if they can even get in the studio before the end of the summer. Then add 4-6 months for mixing/mastering. I know I'm a pessimist when it comes to this band, but I think I'm right in predicting no chance this album drops in 2017. I think best case scenario is mid-2018, and that's assuming the other 3 wrap up the music by this summer.

Maybe that curveball will be released (which I believe is the Opiate video) and they can play that during the shows. Although I'm pessimistic on that as well.

I wouldn't say no chance, but it's pretty bloody unlikely at this stage. The earliest I think they're likely to record would be post harvest, which would make the album most likely out early 2018 rather than 2017.

And I think we know Tool well enough that even recording then is no sure thing.

No way is that new album going to be released in March though. I'll wait until the day passes and pick a new one.

That's what I'm thinking as well. I want to be hopeful, but with APC most likely releasing a new album in the next few months, Tool actually getting ino the recording studio, Adam designing the new album's artwork & packaging (if it hasn't already been worked out), then marketing, the release, followed by a supporting tour...early next year seems a lot more likely.
