[Verse 1]
We are the spirit abound to this flesh
We go round one foot nailed down
But bound to reach out and beyond this flesh
Become Pneuma
[Chorus]
We are will and wonder, abound to recall, remember
We are born of one breath, one word
We are all one spark, sun becoming
[Verse 2]
Child, wake up
Child, release the light
Wake up now, child
Wake up
Child, release the light
Wake up now, child
[Interlude]
Spirit
Spirit
Spirit
Spirit
[Verse 3]
Bound to this flesh
This guise, this mask, this dream
[Chorus]
Wake up, remember
We are born of one breath, one word
We are all one spark, sun becoming
[Outro]
Pneuma
Reach out and beyond
Wake up, remember
We are born of one breath, one word
We are all one spark, eyes full of wonder
Pneuma
Pneuma
Child, wake up...
Re: Pneuma
I know the joke is every new tool song sounds like Schism... but this one really does
Listen to the guitar on Schism between 3:47 and 3:55 or so. This pattern is repeated plenty throughout this section of the song but this 8 seconds is a good representation.
Now listen to Pneuma between 1:17 and 1:25
The guitar on Schism and the bass on Pneuma definitely have similarities.

Re: Pneuma
Must be me but I don't hear the similarity except that both songs are always identified as a tool song.
Either way... Pneuma mayhaps be the best TooL song... Evah.

Re: Pneuma
I definitely hear the similarity and it kind of took overhand when I first listened to Pneuma. I now think it might be the best track on this album (but it's really hard to pick a favourite...). It's better than Schism. There, I said it!

Best song on the album!
Every part of it is brilliant, I totally love the beginning of the first verse with Danny hitting/muting the cymbal and grooving as hell

Re: Pneuma
This is almost the quintessential TOOL song... it really is just about perfect. Flows so nicely, simple riff over and over, spaced out, build ups, beautiful lyrics and vocals and the 9:34 mark after the guitar part is one of the best collective TOOL moments in their whole career catalog.
I cannot criticize this song at all and the eerie thing is I keep wanting to listen to it... the simple riffs keep playing through my head afterwards.
Love it.

Re: Pneuma
That they can make a song that so shamelessly rips off Schism and The Patient the best track on the album is outrageous. Maynard's vocals really seal the deal.
Re: Pneuma
I agree mostly, killer song expertly executed. Simple riff by itself, yes. Try playing along with the song (bass). I can’t even count it out... the transitions are very elusive.mattw wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 2:35 am This is almost the quintessential TOOL song... it really is just about perfect. Re: Pneuma
same here. 0 schism in pneuma
Re: Pneuma
The main riff is very similar to the Schism bridge riff (cold silence has a tendency to...). Other than that, not really. It doesn't bother me at all anymore. I don't hear the The Patient similarities, maybe in the song structure.

Re: Pneuma
When it pauses before the chorusy type riff , I heard the patient too. Not a criticism, I love how much this album draws on their past and creates something new

Re: Pneuma
On my first listen I drew no comparisons other than it being TOOL! If one digs I guess there could be something there but the flow of Pneuma is like NO other! Just Amazing! WOW!
All well Whatever, Nevermind
Re: Pneuma
Those of you who hear no Schism in this song aren't listening hard enough.
Re: Pneuma
Two thumbs to that!
It is a beast of a song.

I didn't hear the patient until you cunts mentioned it and now it's glaringly obvious.
Fuck you guys.
Fuck you guys.

It’s there. But the thread is always interwoven.
You hear it.

I hear tool songs in different tool songs since Lateralus and 10k days came out, so fucking what

Re: Pneuma
Meanwhile:
I’ve looked at the section 3:20 to 5:00 in Pneuma, in the ultrasonic frequencies there is “something there” not tied to any one instrument or sound; it’s through a varied passage. it’s also not a watermark because it’s the only track I’ve looked at with this present.
A buddy (u/baumeistaaa) transposed for me a section of that down a little bit, you can hear the wave here.
What would be the point in sound production to have that slow oscillation present? In the 24kHz region no doubt.
Lyrics during this passage are:
“Child, wake up
Child, release the light Wake up now
Child, wake up
Child, release the light Wake up now, child
(Spirit)
(Spirit)
(Spirit)
(Spirit)
Bound to-“
Are these supposed to be like delta waves or something? they go through a cycle within that range (.5-3Hz)

Re: Pneuma
This track does have that Lateralus feel to me. That pristine super glossy tone in the bass sounds like that whole record to me, but it is has a sort of darker energy too. The part after Wake Up Now Child is one of the darkest introspective bass parts from any Tool song. Love it so much. Exactly what I was hoping they would do. Dreams coming true. Or nightmares..
