My theory is that some of the more vocal fanbois are also the youngest members here. They see TOOL as more of a conceptual machine, varied in its abilities and purposes.

Much of what they're (and we all know who I'm talking about) saying reflects this theory. Adding in the shiny new appeal of psychedelics, and you have a veritable cult of enthusiastic teenagers/young adults.

Then you get to our/my age - over thirty, happy to listen to TOOL every now and then, but largely dismissive of the hype and overall experience that comes with both the band itself and combining TOOL with drugs/sex/meditation/whatever. It's not being jaded - it's just having done it before.

I was hoping that this poll would reflect a large number of young people here, but that's not the case (so far). I have no choice but to assume that a small, vocal minority are making up the hardcore "fanboi" membership base here in the forum. I'm also going to continue assuming that any talk of the overwhelming, unquestionable, holy benefits of psychedelic substances, a demonising of alcohol, and an unadulterated worship of TOOL comes from the mouths of under-25s.

Which isn't a bad thing. I was a fucking dick too when I was that age.
